I have been waiting to write this post in hopes that the inconvenience would be resolved before summer. Today is a 3 day weekend…. a religious holiday (please don’t ask me which one… there’s soooo many I can hardly keep up) and the official-unnofficial opening season weekend. What I was hoping would happen is that someone would come forward and rent out the gas station as it has closed down this past winter. This has been a terrible problem for those living on the island, such as my mother, who has to drive back and forth to the village to buy groceries etc. No gas station means no gas. She runs out and has to pay over 20 euros on the ferry to take her car to the mainland so she can fill up on gas. Can you believe that? Gas is already so expensive here and now the locals are paying much more than necessary. If you ask me a working gas station on an island should be a given. If nobody will take it then the local government should take over and open it up. Of course, this won’t happen. So please make sure when you come to fill up on gas in Nea Roda. If you have a full tank your stay here shouldn’t be a problem as the island is quite small and you just won’t get the mileage in.
Have a beautiful day!
